Life in Coco
A beach town that works year-round
Coco’s main street runs straight down to the sand, lined with restaurants, bars, shops and dive operators. Mornings belong to the fishing boats and dive trips heading out across the bay, and evenings to the crowd gathering on the beach for sunset. Unlike quieter resort enclaves, Coco is a full town, so groceries, dining and services are all close at hand.
- Dive and snorkel trips to the Catalina and Bat Islands leave from the beach
- Sportfishing charters and boat tours from the bay
- Restaurants, bars and nightlife along the main street
- Supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and clinics in town
Getting around
Distances from Playas del Coco
Coco is the gateway to the Gulf of Papagayo. Playa Hermosa and Playa Ocotal are minutes away, and Liberia’s airport and town are close enough for easy trips in and out.
Times are by car from central Playas del Coco unless noted, and vary with season and traffic.
The Playas del Coco Real Estate Market
Coco’s market is built around condos, with a deep selection of single-family homes in the hills and neighborhoods above town, plus building lots and a handful of commercial properties in and around the town center. There are currently 83 properties on the market.
Condos range from lock-and-leave units close to the beach to ocean-view developments such as Pacífico. Homes run from compact places near town to larger ocean-view properties in areas like Las Palmas and Monte Seco. Many owners rent their properties out when they’re not in Coco.
Titled (fee simple) property in Costa Rica can be owned by foreign buyers on the same terms as Costa Ricans. Land within 200 meters of the high-tide line is different: it falls under the Maritime Zone and is held by concession rather than title. Our agents will confirm the ownership status of any listing.
